Do you know what makes an event work?
Simple question. But the answer surprises many people.
Two events. Same goal: make people happy. But totally different approaches. In this assignment you study two events. They look nothing alike. Yet they share the same basic needs.
Case A: Together Outside – Neighbourhood Festival
Together Outside is a one-day festival in a local park. Neighbourhood volunteers organise it. The goal: bring people together. Let them enjoy food, music and activities.
There’s a small stage with acoustic live music. A kids’ zone. Food stands from local cooks. A free Zumba workshop. Volunteers spread flyers around the area. Most communication happens via WhatsApp.
Visitors bring their own chairs and drinks. The festival is free. Around 300–400 people come. There’s no ticket system. Only basic facilities are available: rented toilets, trash bins, a first aid point.
Everything runs on volunteers. There’s a simple plan. No professional security. No production team.

Case B: TechLaunch – Business Product Event
TechLaunch is a high-profile evening event. A fast-growing software company organises it. The goal: present their latest product to clients, partners, and potential investors. Leave a strong, professional impression.
The event takes place at a modern venue. The program includes a keynote. Two demo rounds. A networking reception. A walking dinner. About 250 guests get invitations. Most are professionals from tech and finance sectors.
The marketing team works with an event agency. Everything runs smoothly: lights, sound, branding, signage, registration, hospitality. A photographer documents the evening for social media.

Both events succeed. But how? What makes them work? Ask yourself some key questions:
- Who is the target audience?
- How do people hear about this event?
- What is the main goal of the event?
- Where and when does it take place?
- What activities are planned?
Don’t worry. You don’t write long reports. You answer specific questions. You see them when you click ‘Core’.
Why this assignment matters
